East Bierley Cricket Club Exhibition
144 Not Out!
That's the title of a new exhibition about the history of East Bierley Cricket
Club.
The display, which will be erected in the club's South View Road pavilion, has
been researched and designed by the Cricket Heritage Project team at the
University of Huddersfield.
They were awarded a grant of £50,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to explore
the heritage of cricket in Kirklees - and East Bierley is their latest
exhibition.
"It's been very enjoyable to research the heritage of East Bierley CC," said
project leader Dr Peter Davies, a senior lecturer in History at the
university.
"The club was founded in 1865 and has had a very eventful history: they've won
lots of Bradford League titles and Priestley Cups and had an array of star
players including current Yorkshire captain Anthony McGrath.
"They also went to Lord's in 1979 and won the National Village Trophy - which
was a red letter day!"
The exhibition has been researched by Dr Davies and Philip Dobson, a History
student at the university.
It includes archive images, old newspaper cuttings and photos - and re-lives
all the memorable events in the history of the club.
The exhibition will be launched at a special event at the East Bierley
pavilion on Friday 22 May, 8pm. All welcome.

JCT600 Bradford Cricket League Season 2009
The cricket season is upon us and starts this Saturday 18
th April.
EBCC 1
st XI vs Saltaire (Away)
EBCC 2
nd XI vs Bowling Old Lane (Home)
Both matches start at 1pm.
Please note the following restrictions for Saltaire...
Car Parking
Restrictions in Roberts Park Season 2009
The £4.5m refurbishment of Roberts Park was started in February 2009 by
contractors Casey Construction Ltd. This has inevitably brought some necessary
adjustments to the organisation of the Park for the 2009 season. The work will
be finished in April 2010 by which time the Park will be of a standard fitting
a World Heritage Centre. This includes the building of a new bandstand,
refurbishment of all the buildings and shelters including the Lodge. The Half
Moon, the Cricket Club’s clubhouse, will be knocked into one large area and
will become a cafe/bar with new toilets and a kitchen/servery area. Work on
the Half Moon will not commence until after the end of the 2009 season and it
will remain open as usual for refreshments.
The committee of Saltaire Cricket Club has, therefore, announced revised car
parking arrangements in Roberts Park this season following advice from
Bradford Council and the contractors. This basically means that there will be
no cars allowed in the Park, including players’ and officials’ cars. The
exception to this is for pre-arranged deliveries, the groundsman and for
disabled persons by pre-arrangement (see below for details).
The following arrangements should ensure the enjoyment of spectators visiting
Roberts Park and provide adequate parking for cars adjacent to Roberts Park,
as with a number of other clubs within the league where it is not possible to
accommodate cars within the ground. Our experience so far is that people are
using the playing fields as normal. There were large crowds of people over
Easter.
Players, Officials & Spectators are advised to park in the following
places:- Roadside parking is available on Higher Coach Road, opposite
the old Salt School Car-Park, entering the Park through this entrance. It is
only a short walk to the Half Moon and cricket ground from this entrance.
Please note that this road is a bus-route and visitors should park on the side
of the road nearest to the Park, so as not to restrict the
buses.
- There will be a new large car park at Salt Grammar School,
Higher Coach Road (which is the process of being completed) that is almost
directly opposite a side entrance to Roberts Park. The club is negotiating
with the school to be able to use this car park.
- There are also car
parks in Saltaire itself, within walking distance to the ground over the river
footbridge.
By Bus: The ground is on bus route 627 (Shipley Glen/Coach Road) from the
Bradford Interchange or Shipley Market Square to Higher Coach Road; or route
662 to Saltaire and walk down Victoria Road and river footbridge.
By Train: From Forster Square Station, Frizinghall, Leeds or Shipley stations
alight at Saltaire. Then walk down Victoria Road and over the river footbridge
to Park.
Disabled persons
Drivers with official disabled badges will be allowed to park in Roberts Park
by the side of the Half Moon only by pre-arrangement , at least one day before
the match, on request to Geoff Porter, Club Secretary 01274 826177 (Mobile
07948535639), email: gnporterone@blueyonder.co.uk.
These badges must be displayed on the vehicle.
Seating for spectators is provided; we are negotiating with the Council for
permanent seating around the entire ground. It is also possible to watch in
comfort from inside the Half Moon café, the 2 lounges and the balcony in the
Pavilion.
We thank everyone for bearing with us during this work which when finished
will make Roberts Park a venue which the Bradford League can be justly proud.
Geoffrey Porter, Secretary, Saltaire CC, 14/04/2009
