cricket that we all enjoy, be it Senior or Junior.
We have people who sponsor matches and match balls, managers and coaches of
Junior Cricket teams and scorers for all ages. We have people who work on the
ground, man the gate and also keep the changing rooms clean and tidy and we
also have people who provide food and teas at all our cricket matches, sell
raffle tickets and many more.
So at the end of every cricket season we like to take the opportunity of
thanking all these people who have helped in any way over the previous season
and invite them to our "Sponsor's Evening".
This year it is being held on Thursday, November 17

The JCT600 Bradford League Under-21 side won the inaugural Colonel Bill
Young Trophy challenge match against the visiting Western District Cricket
Union team from Scotland at East Bierley today by 98 runs.
The 40-overs a side match was an interesting contest with the greater depth
and experience of the Bradford League side proving to be the deciding factor.
The young Scottish team certainly posed problems for their rivals,
particularly early on when opening bowlers Scott McElnea and Bilal Chaudhry
extracted movement from the pitch with the new ball.
Indeed Bradford looked in trouble as they were reduced to 33-3 when skipper
Joe Greaves, who reached 1,000 runs for the season for Farsley yesterday,
holed out for a duck.
Undercliffe's Zarak Khan then led a recovery with some elegant drives in an
innings of 39.
He shared a fourth-wicket stand of 56 with Edward Walmsley of Pudsey Congs
before both fell in quick succession to Ryan Morrow who took 3-42.
Bowling Old Lane's Mubtada Akhtar hit a brisk 33 as Bradford tried to up the
tempo but his innings came to an unlucky conclusion when Gomersal's Jack
Seddon hit a straight drive which was deflected onto the stumps by the bowler
with non-striker Akhtar out of his ground.
At 159-7 it looked as if Bradford would do well to reach 200, but the
eighth-wicket pair of Gomersal's Seddon and Richie Lamb (Pudsey Congs) had
other ideas.
They went for their shots and took the game away from the visitors with an
impressive, unbroken partnership of 112.
Seddon was the first to reach his 50 off 38 balls with nine fours, but Lamb
got their in less balls as he reached his half century from just 27 with three
sixes and six fours.
Lamb finished unbeaten on 61 while Seddon was 57 not out as the JCT600
Bradford League finished with an impressive score of 271-7 - a total that
didn't seem possible until Seddon and Lamb seized the initiative.
The Western District Cricket Union lost an early wicket in reply but then hit
back as their second-wicket pair of Michael English and Danial Chaudhry played
impressively.
They mixed sound defence with some fine attacking strokes whenever the quick
bowlers strayed in length or line. The two 16-year-olds looked to be putting
their side into a challenging position until both fell in quick succession.
Chaudhry unwisely chose to try and loft off spinner Walmsley out of the ground
and was caught at long on by Gareth Phillips for 38. When English perished
soon after to a catch by wicketkeeper Seddon off Lamb, the Western District
Cricket Union lost momentum.
The combination of Walmsley's tight off spin at one end and the skidding
medium pace of Woodlands' Scott Richardson at the other proved to be a vital
ingredient in Bradford's ulitmate success.
Richardson finished with 4-31 and Walmsley 3-28 as the visitors subsided to
173 all out.

2nd XI: Idle v East
Bierley"East Bierley snatched the second promotion
place in dramatic style as their rivals Pudsey Congs were dismissed for just
25 at Manningham Mills.
Congs started the day seven points ahead of East Bierley and looked favourites
to join Gomersal in Division One next season until their batting failed
dramatically.
Shoaib Iqbal returned the stunning figures of 7-8 and Jamal Mahboob picked up
3-4 as seven Congs batsmen recorded ducks and the top contribution to their
score were the 14 extra conceded by Mills who had earlier made 188.
Veteran Javed Iqbal (52), Hamza Khan (43) and Jamal Mahboob (34) provided the
bulk of their runs against as attack in which Andre Stolarski (4-60) and
Callum Oliver (3-31) did the bulk of the work.
East Bierley, who had no game on Saturday and had to look on as Congs defeated
Keighley to overtake them in the table, made no mistake on the final day as
they sealed an immediate return to the top flight.
East Bierley picked up a maximum 20 points as they powered to a 168-run win
over Idle. Lee Abbott led the way with 86 while James Petty (67), Andrew Newby
(41) and Liam Walsh (38) kept the scoreboard ticking over. The best of the
Idle bowlers was Chiggy Patel (4-51).
Idle were dismissed for 111 in reply with skipper Matthew Anderson, leading
the team for the last time, taking 4-23."

(Adam Waite 74, Mark Robertshaw 61, Lee Jarvis 3-38)
Pudsey St. Lawrence bt East Bierley by
5wkts
Pudsey St Lawrence took less than an hour to complete a
five-wicket final triumph over East Bierley and lift the Priestley Cup for the
first time in 14 years.
They needed 47 runs from 11 overs with six wickets in hand when play was
suspended for bad light on Sunday and they knocked off the runs for the loss
of just one more wicket with 3.2 overs to spare.
Skipper James Smith was unbeaten on 29 when they passed East Bierley's total
of 243-7. The only wicket to fall was that Chris Marsden to the last ball of
former Yorkshire bowler Paul Hutchison's final over.
St Lawrence opening batsman Mark Robertshaw was voted man of the match after
taking 3-32 and hitting 61.
Smith was delighted with his team's triumph. He said: "Our bowlers did a great
job containing them to under 250 and our spinners made it hard for their
batsmen by taking the pace off the ball."
He added: "We decided a few weeks ago that Chris Marsden would open the
bowling because we felt their openers Gavin Hamilton and Gharib Razak
preferred the ball coming on.
"We also saw when we played our league game against Bradford & Bingley at
Wagon Lane on Saturday that there was something for the slow bowlers.
"Spike took five wickets on Saturday and he bowled well again getting both the
openers out."
The decision to have off spinner Steve Watts take over when Marsden finished
his ten overs was no surprise but the decision to employ part-time spinner
Mark Robertshaw for seven overs at the end of the innings was.
Gareth Clough, who like Smith missed out on St Lawrence's last cup win 14
years ago because they had been recruited for the Yorkshire Academy, got the
credit for that move.
Clough said: "Robbers has bowled well at the end of Twenty/20 games and as we
were having success taking the pace off the move it was well worth taking the
risk."
Bad light had brought the final to a premature end on Sunday night. The
abandonment of play finally brought the curtain down on a frustrating day of
delays, injuries and slow over rates which did little to cheer a crowd that
had to contend with a biting wind and rain showers.
When umpires Malcolm Allitt and Keith Dickens suspended play at Wagon Lane, St
Lawrence were 197-4 needing a further 47 to win the cup for the first time
since 1997.
Shortly after they made their decision rain started falling as the
disappointed followers of the two teams made their way out of the ground.
The match was evenly poised when play was halted. Left-arm spinner Luke Jarvis
3-38 had pulled East Bierley back into contention after openers Adam Waite 74
and Mark Robertshaw 61 had launched the St Lawrence reply to East Bierley's
243-7 with an opening stand of 121.
The match was marred by injuries to two East Bierley players. Former Yorkshire
wicketkeeper Ismail Dawood was taken to hospital with a suspected torn
Achilles tendon after falling while attempting to set off for a run after
making 29.
Dawood's injury not only cut short his budding innings, it meant that young
Liam Walsh had to take over behind the stumps.
Andrew Rennison dislocated a thumb while fielding and had to withdraw from the
action with 30 overs to go.
St Lawrence skipper James Smith, who will resume on 11 not out along with
Chris Marsden who has the same score, will have been delighted with his
bowlers who responded to the challenge after he put East Bierley into bat.
A final total of 243-7 in their 50 overs looked under-par. The gamble of
opening the bowling with off spinner Marsden brought dividends and all of the
St Lawrence bowlers maintained commendable accuracy.
Marsden claimed the wickets of both openers Gavin Hamilton and Gharib Razak to
catches by David Stiff in a ten-over spell which earned him figures of 2-30.
Dawood, who came in after the early departure of Razak, looked to be building
an innings of substance when it was cruelly cut short by his injury, but
skipper Lee Goddard and Rennison came together and gradually increased the
tempo.
Rennison, man of the match when East Bierley defeated Farsley in the 2009
final, was more watchful. His 50 included one six and a four, while Goddard
was far more forceful and hit two sixes and five fours in his 68 before he was
brilliantly caught by David Stiff – his third catch of the innings - off
Gareth Clough.
The closing overs saw East Bierley lose wickets as they chased quick runs and
Smith's preference for the occasional off spin of Robertshaw in the closing
overs instead of his pacemen paid off. Robertshaw took 3-32 in seven overs.

regional telephone voting and it was obvious that half way through the count
that Lea had convincingly won the competition! The previous year he had
finished runner up in the Bachelors "Cup A Soup Comedy Challenge" performing
at the Comedy Store, London. Clearly Lea's star was on the rise. In 2004 he
was invited back by ITV to perform on "That's Entertainment" - a big budget UK

A former

1st XI: Farsley v East
Bierley"East Bierley's recent good run came to a halt
as they suffered a five-wicket defeat at Farsley. Lorenzo Ingram emerged from
his recent run of low scores to make an unbeaten 57 while Joe Greaves (62) hit
another valuable half-century for his side as they chased down an East Bierley
score of 248-8 and won with ten balls to spare.
Opener Gharib Razak (54) and skipper Lee Goddard (47) looked to have layed the
foundations for a much bigger total but Ryan Lumb (4-55), shouldering greater
responsibility in the absence of Chris Henry, kept them in check."

Keighley"Keighley's all-rounder seventeen-year old
Amjid Hussain is making quite a name for himself.
He followed up last week's hat-trick against Idle by blasting an unbeaten 111
as his side defeated league leaders East Bierley by six wickets.
Hussain raced to his 50 off just 23 balls and continued to punish the East
Bierley bowlers as he and Callum Jones (36no) saw their side past the home
side's total of 217-8.
East Bierley were indebted to skipper Matthew Anderson (82no) for their total
of 217-8. Keighley's best bowlers were Hammy Shezad (3-51) and Alex Towler
(3-65)."

East Bierley bt Mirfield H.L by 3 wkts
East Bierley won the toss and put the home team in to bat. At 75-0 the
decision looked suspect but the bowling of Kayne Whitehead and Liam Blezard
turned things round. However, Mirfield Harry Lime contributed to their own
downfall, first to 95-5 and then 139-all out in 34 overs.
East Bierley made their own strong start of 51-0, then they too lost wickets
as they closed on the target. They won what turned out to be another enjoyable
game with just 3 wickets remaining.
EBCC's Jack Bleazard represents Yorkshire in the under 11's
Congratulations to Jack Bleazard, who today (Tuesday 12th July),
represented Yorkshire at Under 11 v Cleveland today.
Yorkshire won and scored 138 for 4 with Jack scoring 25 not out.
Jack also bowled and with figures of 4 overs, 15 for 1.
Well done Jack.

Comedy Night - 28th April 2011
COMEDY NIGHT
Thursday 28th April 2011
£10 per person (includes supper)
All welcome

Jed Stone is without doubt the most versatile comedian and entertainer in the
UK today!
Jed has appeared many times on T.V. and Radio, including Sky T.V.’s “THE
NEW COMEDIANS”, Central T.V.’s “JOKER IN THE PACK” with Marti Caine,
“POT OF GOLD” with Des O’Connor, “MY KINDA PEOPLE” with Michael
Barrymore, “SKY SPORTS” and even “MATCH OF THE DAY”! As well as many
credits on B.B.C. Radio Merseyside and BBC Radio Lancashire.
He also won BBC 2 T.V.’s “The Weakest Link”, and left presenter Anne
Robinson speechless for once.
His energy and enthusiasm combined with lightening quick ad-libs and topical
bang up to date material ensure that every function is always a huge success,
and make Jed one of the most sought after comedians in the country.
Jed is unique in that he can turn his hand to anything in comedy; this led to
him appearing at The Labour Party Conference in Blackpool 2002 with Tony Blair
and Bill Clinton in attendance. He can personalize his material especially for
the client, which is why he hired regularly by some of the U.K.’s biggest
blue chip corporate companies including The Royal Bank Of Scotland, British
Telecom, Volvo Trucks U.K., to name but a few.
You only get one chance to book the right comedian for your function; to Jed
every show is a major event.

JCT600 Bradford Cricket League website change update
If you haven't got around to changing all your bookmarks to the new site URL
(

then you may find that the old site URL (

Hopefully all the small hiccups that occur with something as major as this
will all die down.
